Comedians of the Shadow Puppet Show and their Features

The clown or comedian of the shadow puppet show is the main character and the most
important to the play. The comedy is the highlight and the amusement that the puppeteers will create will
make the first impression on the audience. When the show is finished, the things that the audience will still
remember are the comedy scenes. The puppeteers who are able to create amusing scenes will be successful in
their career.
In movies, the hero and the heroine are the key characters of the plot, but for the puppet show it
is entirely different from a movie because the comedians are the key players of the show. There are many
reasons that support the saying that is as follow:
The clowns and comedians are close to the audience (to the southern people) more than any
other characters. Because the comedians are from the south and also speak the southern dialect. It is believed
that the characters of the comedians are imitating real people.
Each comedian will have its individuality and a special character and come from a defined
clear original hometown. The dialect of the speech is an important feature and different from other districts.
The narrators or puppet players who can imitate dialects from specific local people will have
great success with the audience. The comedy dialogs can select any topics Sometimes they are about the
political situation, social problems, proverbs mixed with the story to make 1t more entertaining. When the
narrator can imitate the audience it gets good response. The first reason is .hat the comedians are the main
actors. This character can act in many stories but still have the same name and be same character. The
comedians can be selected to join in the story by the narrator or puppeteer. So we usuall} see the character of
"Ai-Teng" and "Ai-Nunui" in nearly every story.
