Sadao Sub-district
The area of Sadao was formerly a small sub-district which was a part of Saiburi
Province. It was called Sada or Seeda. Prince Saiburi traveled through this area on his journey to bring
the golden and silver trees to Bangkok. In 2404 the King Rama IV of Thailand built the first road
to Saiburi. In 2414 the King Rama V of Thailand visited Saburi and the road between Songkhla
and Saiburi was then improved. In 2450 Saiburi became a part of British territory. After the borders
were decided, Sadao became part of Songkhla Province. The area of Sadao Sub-district is hilly land.
The city hall is on a hill which is about 180 ft. above sea level. The Ootapao River flows past on
the eastern side and the Lay River flows past on the western side. These two rivers meet at the point
which divides Sadao Sub-district and Prik Sub-district. On both sides of the river there is flat terrain
wh.ich floods often.
