Thung Mo Sub-district

       Background

Thung Mo Sub-district is one of the 5 sub-districts in Sadao District. Most of the
people originally moved there from Hatyai District. Because of the large area of unused land, people
began to come from all different areas to settle down and start a new community. According to some

elderly locals, the area was originally named Kung Mo. The name was given to the place because of
a Chinese merchant who came to the area by boat. He was selling clay pots and vessels. As he was
traveling down the Rampue River, he came to a sharp turn and his boat capsized. All his clay pots
and vessels sank to the bottom of the river. The people in the area named this place 'Kung Mo' which

means 'pot bend' in Thai. Because of different dialects, the name is now Thung Mo.
