Musical Instruments Used to Perform the Shadow Puppet Show
The musical instruments of the shadow puppet show in the past were very simple, invented by
the local people: The "Tab", gong, klong, ching, but the phee and a sor duang were used later. Some Thai
shadow puppet troupes perform with international musical instruments. When there are many musical
instruments, more members must join the team. More capital is involved and for this reason the play is
expensive. This show is becoming very rare because television is more popular than the shadow puppet
show. Some people think that contemporary instruments are not right for the show if the original
performance wants to be preserved. Many people worry and are concerned about it.
