Shadow Puppet Show Performance Course-Tha Chang Sub-district

Importance: The shadow puppet handlers are very important
for this show because they must be musicians and puppeteers at the same
time. They must also recite and sing during all the different parts of the
performance. Especially, they must express all emotions including angry
feelings, love scenes, cheerful or happy scenes, dramatic and sorrowful
scenes. The music of the shadow puppet show has several rhythms
depending on the scene being performed. The puppeteers must be
creative in applying the music and preserving the traditional local music
during the performance and for the generations to come.

I. To give the knowledge and understanding of usage of the shadow puppet show materials
2. To have the ability and knowledge to develop it into an occupation

Course Contents
It contains 5 of the following materials
Part I History of the shadow show/the importance of the puppeteer/the qualifications of the
puppeteer
Part 2 Musical instruments, maintenance and storage
Part 3 The comedian and its character
Part 4 Practicing playing the different musical instruments
Part 5 Steps for performing the show/forming a troupe and following the puppeteer

Study Time

The course about the Shadow Puppets takes 20 hours
Theory 2 hours
Practice I 8 hours
