             2.1 Specific Expertise
Shadow Puppet Show Building the Shadow Play Theater
The theater of the shadow puppet play must have four pillars made of wood. The size is about
3.3 x 3 meters, the stage of the puppet scene is 2 meters high, the roof is in the Thai style shack with 4 sides.
The walls are made of long pieces of bamboo, there is one door atthe back of the house and there is a small
ladder leaning on the ground. The front of the stage or theater is made by stretching out a cloth screen
(square) 5 feet long and 10 feet wide. There is a small light hanging behind the screen (about 1 foot front the
floor). Also, there are banana stalks near the stage on both sides of the stage. They are used for pitching the
screen. At the top, there is a rope on both side, it is used is for hanging the hero and the leading lady puppets.
The screen is made of see-through white cloth the size is about 108 x 2.3 meters. The hem of the screen will
be sewed with a colorful cloth (red or dark blue) the size is about 4-5 inches There is a line dividing the area
between the humans and heaven (spirits) according to the beliefs in building or constructing a shadow puppet
       theater.
Beliefs in Building a Shadow Puppet Show Theater
                  l. When constructing the theater, the front of the theater should not be turned to the west.
Because it is believed that if the shadow puppet theater is towards the west, bad things will happen to the
troupe and they will never be successful like the sun while setting.
                  2. Do not construct the theater under big trees. According to beliefs of Brahman big trees are
the places for Shiva, angel or guardian spirit live there. So if you do it will disturb them.
