General Knowledge of Bang Klum District
Background
Bang Kl um is the name of a village that was named after the topography of the area with a canal
and the island of Bang Klom. Later when the Chinese invaded traveling by boat through the Songkhla Lake
they came to live with the Thai people and the name of the village was changed from Bang Klom to Bang
KJum. Before Bang Klum was a district of Hatyai, Songkhla but later the Ministry of Interior decided to
make it a district on 3 January 2533 and it separated from Hatyai and became a district on 8 September 2538.
Topography
Bang Klum has an area of 162 square kilometers or approximate!} 92,522 rai. The area consists
of plains on the river bank and hill slopes. In the east there are the Uthapao and the Bang Klum canals
flowing through. The area is covered by 80% of plains or approximately 74,042 rai of good soil for
agriculture. In the west there are many hills (locally called Kuan) and only 20% or 18,510 rai of arable land.
