Sawianmor Basketry Course

Importance
There are many kinds and traditions of basketry in each region of Thailand. These differences
reflect the landscape, way of life, traditions, beliefs and religion. Basketry is a worthwhile handicraft,
because it is part of the traditional heritage of each community. Moreover, basketry is of value both
in art and beauty because of the many beautiful figures, structures and patterns that are different from
other materials.
Aims
1. To use free time in a useful way
2. To put to use natural materials
3. To support traditional skills
4. To generate income for the youth
5. To build a good reputation for the community
Objectives
l. To give youth understanding of Sawianmor basketry.
2. To employ this knowledge and skill in daily life.
3. To employ the knowledge in an occupation.
Course Contents
There are two subjects
1. Tools and materials for Sawianmor basketry:
2 . Making Sawianmor baskets from palm sticks.
Time
20 hours for this course
- Theory: 2 hours
- Practice: 18 hours
