Background

From a recount of the forefathers to the same record in historical evidence Kuan Niang is said to
be a small village situated on a hill near a low or high mountain. The hill formed a consecutive continuous
village residential area so they called this the "Kuan Rieng" as a sort of plants growing a lot in this area and
as the Look Niang. Mountain When traveling through people will take Look Niang back as a souvenir.
The local people call the place "Ban Kuan Rieng" derived from Look Niang with a slight difference, and
now it is "Kuan Niang" to the people until today.
Kuan Niang was originally a Sub-District named "Rattha Phum", located at Ban Pak Bang Poo
Mee. Rattha Phum Sub-District in the past was attached to the district organization of Pak Pha yun,
Phatthalung Province. In approximately 2435 it was upgraded to a district and named Rattha Phum by using
the same location as the Ban Pak Bang District Office. In 2466, Rattha Phum District office moved from Ban
Pak Bang to be located Moo 1, Tambon Kamphaeng Rattha Phum District. The current Rattha Phum District
Office became then Rattaphum Sub District, later renamed "Rattaphum District" in 2509 according to the
report of Songkhla Province.
In 2525, Rattaphum District Council, Bang Rieng, Kuan So and Huey luk agreed to the
resolution that should upgrade 4 sub-districts to a district and proposed it to the Ministry of Interior. Later,
the Ministry of Interior announced a new zoning district in Songkhla Province that Rattaphum District
conceeded to "Sub-District Kuan Niang", dated 17 December 2527. And the 4 sub-districts became Kuan
Niang Sub-district from January 2, 2528 onwards. Kuan Niang Sub-District area has 4 sub-districts and 41
subdivisions with a population of 30,354 inhabitants in an area of 209 square kilometers. The public library
