Sadao District
History of Sadao
The area of Sadao District was formerly the sub-district Sadao of Jang Lone District in
Saiburi Province. On 10 March 2452 (1909) the Thai government, which was then under the rule
of the 5th King in Rattanakosin, signed a treaty with England. The Thai government exchanged the
provinces Trangkanoo, Palis, and Saburi as well as the surrounding islands for a loan of 4 million
pounds. This money was used to build the Southern railroad and it also allowed Thailand to regain
the rights to its territories.
The areas of sub-districts Sadao, Prik, and Toong Moh were not part of the territory given
to England. These sub-districts became part of Nua District (Hatyai) in Songkhla Province. In 2460
sub-district Sadao became Sadao District of Songkhla Province. The first head of the district was
Master Pak.dee Rachakit. Sadao District has been a part of Songkhla Province ever since.
