Importance

Thai people have been involved in the art of carving banana stalks for a long time.
It is considered an important craft that is now disappearing. It is a fact that every Thai person loves

beautiful things and like things related to their life to be outstanding and elegant. Most Thai art
is generally accepted as beautiful and gentle, especially the Thai designs. The local artist's creativity
mostly comes from natural beautiful surroundings, a unique outstanding beauty that is very difficult to
find. However, it is a shame that some of the artwork designs based on the composition of traditional
Thai designs, that have been around since ancient times, are surely going to be lost if not passed on or

studied seriously in the near future.

Goals

I. To provide the youth with the skills and knowledge of carving banana stalks
2. T o provide the youth with creativity in carving banana stalks
3. T o provide the youth with occupations and earnings
4. To conserve the unique style and method of banana stalk carving in Ching Ko Sub-district.

Objectives

1. T o have the knowledge and understanding of the principles of carving banana stalks

2. Use the knowledge to create income for the local youth
3. For the youth to utilize their free time well

Course Contents

I. T o ols and materials used in carving
2. Methods of various banana stalk carvings

Study Time

Course of banana stalk carving: 20 hours
Theory: 2 hours
Practice: 18 hours
