Making Batik Fabric

1. Stretch the fabric on a wooden frame

Place the cloth on the frame (wax should have been previously applied around the frame), use
the end of a paintbrush to apply pressure on the cloth to flatten and stretch it evenly all around the frame.

2. Sketching
A well-stretched piece of fabric will make the sketching of the picture easier.

3. Applying the wax

The wax is applied over the penciled-in outline of the pattern. After the design has been
sketched the wax must be drawn over it to protect the design and keep the colors from mixing. The wax
should be at the right temperature.

A small instrument called "canting" is used to outline the design. "Canting" is a small little pot
with a very fine nozzle and handle, it comes in size L, size M, size S, and size SS.
