       History

The Manora dance is a performing art from the south of Thailand. The ceremonial dance
is believed to help boost morale and heal sicknesses as well. The ceremonial Manora dance is very
important and sacred to the members of the Manora academy. This ceremonial dance is used to call
the ancient spirits down to the area to receive their blessings or to give offerings to them for fa

vors done. This ceremonial dance is also performed for the occasion of tying the headdress or other
cloth binding onto a new performer. During these ceremonial dances the spirit of the ancient Manora
teachers is called down to possess the Manora theatre. This ceremony is called 'Nora Long Kru'.

When the Manora dance is performed for an audience it is called 'Nora Ram'. When the entire
academy travels to different places to perform it is called 'Nora Deun Rong'. When two different
academies dance in competition it is called "Nora Rong Kang".
