Phang-nga and Phuket

Residents of Phang-nga feel that they and their
property are safe at a high level because they view
Phang-nga as a peaceful province, without a large
number of foreign workers. Even though there are a
number of foreign migrants working in the agriculture
sector in Phang-nga, the province is able to keep these
persons under control. By contrast, Phuket has a large
number of non-residents who are foreign migrant workers.
In addition, Phuket residents have sold land to foreign
corporations or other outside entities, and this decreases
the sense of security of life and property. The proportion
of the non-registered population, both Thai and non-Thai,
is higher in Phuket than Phang-nga.
2. Foreign investors and tendency to sell land
Residents of Phuket are concerned about sale of
land and investment activities with foreigners. There is
demand for Phuket land and this is pushing land prices
up to high levels. There is concern that too much foreign
land holding and investment will erode the attractiveness
of Phuket as a tourist destination. At the time of this
