10. The prologue is performed with the background music in which they tell the viewers what
the story of that night will be about. At the time when the show was only about the Ramayana they had to tell
the viewers which of the Ramayana era they were performing about, they would introduce it in the prologue
to attract the audience and they would then become interested to hear the whole story, and invariably the

prologues are about the triumph of good over evil. And it is performed by Mr. Saksi, or the spirit of the city
                    11. Chanting chapter which brings on the illumination of the screen.
                    12. A story in honor of the town or city where the performance takes place woud ends the show

of the night. It is the opportunity to honor the city ruler and his wife as they become figures participating in
the shadow play. In the past the shadow play was performed for happy celebrations and not for unfortunate
events such as funerals. But this trend has ended and the Shadow Play can be performed in the three possible
         settings :
                        1. House Celebrations: casting out evil spirits, conjuring the Naga, wedding, house

warming, funerals, "washing the head" ceremony, religious home ceremonies and invoking cleasing over a
         house.
                        2. Temple ceremonies: funerals, Kuti Viharn celebration, the annual festivals in the temple,

the 'work'festival of pulling the monk floats, and the traditional 10th month merit making festival.
                        3. Local Fairs: At fairs and amusment parks, they are also performed at competions such as
sports competitions, at Shadow Puppet fairs, New Year's celebrations, and Songkran Festivals (usually
organized by individuals for additional income). Between the years 2520-2526 there were so many hosted

programs that the famous troops were fully booked from January to October without one free night.
In November and December because of the heavy rains in the south very few shows are hosted at that time.
In that period many new stories would originate from the hundreds of southern troops performing but
currently there are not more then 100 troops left, all members being over 45 years of age.
