Pipe Making and Blowing-Bangriang Sub-District
Rationale
Phee is a Thai musical instrument made of hard wood
such as rosewood. The bar of wood is lathed with a bulgy middle
part. The center of the bar is bored through. One end of the hole is
small, and a hole at the other end is big. Each end is extended by
resin about 0.5 cm. On the middle part, 6 holes are bored, which can
produce 24 levels of sound and 8 other different sounds making 32
levels of sounds.
From the top part, 4 holes are bored in a straight line;
from the bottom part the other 2 holes are also bored. In the top hole, a pipe reed, made of a palm leaf, is
inserted. The reed is put into a reed body made of copper, silver or bronze or another metal. Then the reed
body tied with a string or small rope is inserted into a pipe. The reed body is inserted into a pipe body until
reaching the small rope to tighten its position.
